Investigators were looking into an fuel leak at Sand Island Monday morning.
A security guard who patrols the area at Rolloffs Hawaii on Ulupono Street at Sand Island says he smelled something at around 11 p.m. Sunday.
When the guard came back around 2 a.m. Monday, he noticed fuel leaking from the property onto the streets. Apparently, a fuel tank was leaking diesel fuel. An employee from Rolloffs Hawaii turned off the valve on the tank. That employee said the leak was a stream of fuel, but rather a sprinkling.
Fire crews arrived at around 3 a.m. laying down sand to prevent fuel from entering the storm drain. Firefighters left the scene about an hour later.
