Island-wide outage keeps Molokai dark for 3 hours
Molokai experienced an island-wide power outage at around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Maui Electric Company officials.
About 3,200 customers were affected by the outage.
Parts of Kaunakakai got power back at 11:38 a.m. and Hoolehua, including the airport, had its power restored by 11:43 a.m.
Customers on Molokai's west end were restored shortly thereafter at 11:51 a.m. and the Kualapuu area was brought back online at 12:03 p.m. Remaining customers in Kaunakakai were restored at 12:18 p.m.
As of 12:37 p.m., all customers on Molokai had power restored.
An investigation is underway to find the cause of the power outage.
MECO says it sincerely regrets any inconvenience this may have caused to its customers on Molokai. Officials thanks the public for their patience and greatly appreciates their understanding.
