Kailua soldier's remains en route to Hawaii
The remains of a Hawaii National Guard soldier killed in a plane crash in Afghanistan are headed home.
The Army said Thursday the remains of Sgt. Drew Scobie of Kailua are expected to arrive in Hawaii in the next several days. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Scobie was killed Friday in Parwan Province when the MC-12 surveillance aircraft he was aboard crashed. A Wyoming Army National Guard solider was also killed in the crash.
Scobie was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters and Battery, 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery in Wahiawa. He was a fire direction operator for the artillery battalion. This was his first deployment.
The 25-year-old leaves behind a pregnant wife and a son.
