A man in his mid-30s was hospitalized in serious condition after he apparently hit his head on the reef at Kaiser Bowls in Waikiki Friday, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.
The man was transported to the hospital at around 1 p.m.
A witness says the man was surfing and hit his head on the reef. The man was about 100 yards from shore when the incident happened.
Surfers helped bring the man closer to shore by 50 yards. Lifeguards then brought the man to shore by watercraft.
The surfer was treated by lifeguards and paramedics in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon.
