KIHEI, Hawaii -

Maui County Ocean Safety lifeguards in cooperation with state land personnel closed Kamaole I, II and III beaches on Thursday due to a confirmed shark sighting.

A 6-foot-long gray shark was seen just after 4 p.m. by visitors walking along the Kamaole II beach.

The shark was seen in knee-deep waters.  The state's shark response protocol says the beach will be closed for two hours.

If the shark is no longer seen, the beach will reopen after 6 p.m.
