Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a three-car collision on Kaumuali'i Highway in the vicinity of Knudsen Gap, according to Kauai county officials.
A BMW sedan was traveling east on the highway at around 7:20 a.m. when it rear-ended a gray Toyota sedan that was stopped in traffic. The impact then caused that vehicle to hit the silver Toyota sedan stopped in front of it.
The 27-year-old female driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries and did not require treatment, but the 27-year-old female driver of the gray sedan and male operator of the silver sedan, age 63, were transported to Wilcox Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The eastbound lane of Kaumuali'i Highway was closed for roughly an hour. During the closure, officers directed one lane of alternating traffic flow.
The highway was reopened at around 8:30 a.m. when all vehicles could be cleared from the scene.
