WAINIHA, Hawaii -

The Kauai Department of Water has issued a correction to its door-to-door notices that were distributed Tuesday regarding the scheduled water outage in the Wainiha area.

The DOW's notifications should state a scheduled water outage on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting.

The DOW apologizes for the incorrect information and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation.

The shutdown will allow the DOW to complete a system transfer to its new water supply pump station.

During the outage, customers along parts of Kuhio Highway, Ananalu Road, Anahulu Road, Ala'eke Road and Wainiha Powerhouse Road will have no water service or low pressure.

A detailed map of all the affected streets can be viewed online at www.kauaiwater.org.

Affected customers are advised to store enough water to meet their needs during the outage; notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the outage; and exercise caution while driving through the area.

When the water main is turned back on, air may be mixed into the water causing it to appear white or milky in color. This is normal and the air in the water will eventually dissipate.

Anyone with questions can call the Department of Water at 245-5455 during business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For emergencies after hours, call Police Dispatch at 241-1711.
