LIHUE, Hawaii -

Kauai residents will keep current fees for their electric bill.

Out of nearly 11,000 voters, 74 percent voted to keep the current fees set by the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative.

The company charges a monthly fee of $10.27 to customers using the old meters to measure their energy usage.

The fees cover the roughly $340,000 per year required to read the meters manually.
