Chad Vaughn Weigle, 48, was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years in prison after he was convicted of two counts of first-degree sexual assault for assaulting two developmentally challenged juvenile males in separate incidents, according to the Kauai County prosecutor.
Weigle, who has been held in custody at Kaua'i Community Correctional Center since Nov. 18, 2012, was represented by Attorney Rosa Flores.
The case was investigated by the Kaua'i Police Department, by Lead Detective James Kurasaki with assistance from Sgt. Mark Ozaki. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Arin prosecuted the case for the State of Hawai'i.
"This individual preyed on the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and it's our job to protect everyone from predators like him,” stated Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar. “We are pleased that this defendant will not be in a position to harm anyone else in this community for many, many years. We thank everyone who played a part in the investigation and prosecution of Mr. Weigle, and we hope that this sentence brings a measure of closure for the victims."
