LIHUE, Hawaii -

Kauai's utility has restored power after an island-wide blackout.

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative spokeswoman Shelley Paik said Thursday that power went out starting shortly before 10 a.m.

The outage was triggered when the utility lost its second largest generator. The outage then spread around the island.

Power was restored at 11:51 a.m.

KIUC said a fuel valve failed.  The generator is at Port Allen on Kauai's west side.

Repairs on the generator are being made and the cause of the fuel valve failure is being investigated.
