Kea'au man accused of throwing machete at officers

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Thursday for a Kea'au man accused of throwing a machete at police officers.

HILO, Hawaii -

A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Hilo Thursday for a 58-year-old man charged with multiple crimes including trying to kill a police officer.

Police say, last Thursday, Joseph Feliciano threw a machete at police officers who went to his Kea'au home to investigate a domestic abuse case.

According to court documents, Feliciano was being defiant and holding two machetes when police arrived. He was later subdued and arrested.

The attempted murder charge carries a prison term of life without parole. In addition, Feliciano is charged with assault, abuse of a household member and terroristic threatening.

His bail was set at $400,000.
