DAVIE, Fla. -

These weren't the prom pictures they were expecting to take.

Standing in the middle of a busy interstate, their blood was soaking through their tuxedos and gowns.

The group of 24 Western High School seniors was in a rented limousine on Interstate 595 in Broward County when a terrifying accident happened just in front of it. A van had slammed into a highway wall Saturday night.

"I tried to slam my brakes on, but with 24 kids in the back, it's hard to slam the brakes on," limo driver Danny Izzi said.

Izzi shot video of the students in their formal wear, hustling out of his limo, trying to help any way they could.

Inside the upside-down van was a family with young children.

"(A) little kid ran out of the van first and started running towards us," Frank Tucker said.

Fellow senior Peter Kim, who is going to college to become a doctor, immediately picked up the frightened child.

"The first reaction was to get him out of the car, get him away from the car (and) just sit him down, tell him to relax, (that) everything will be alright," he said.

Some students called 911.

"Adrenaline was pumping," Tucker said.

Following their heroics, the seniors realized their outfits were soaked.

"I looked down and saw blood all over my dress, and I was like, 'Oh my God,'" Krista Pulcini said.

And then there was the matter of the big night.

"They made it to prom," Izzi said. "Probably a few minutes late, but they made it."
