Lanai crash survivors remain in hospital

WAILUKU, Hawaii -

Maui County police have confirmed that the three survivors of last week's plane crash on Lanai are still in the hospital.

The survivors are 43-year-old James Giroux of Haiku; 57-year-old Douglas Miller from Kahului; and 43-year-old Mark King from Kihei.

King and Miller are listed in critical condition.  Giroux is listed in stable condition.

The pilot and two other passengers on the plane died in the Feb. 26 crash.  They have been identified as 66-year-old Richard Rooney of Paia, who was also the owner and operator of Maui Air; 52-year-old Tremaine Balberdi of Kahului; and 50-year-old Kathleen Kern from Kihei.  The cause of deaths are under investigation.

The aircraft was chartered by the County of Maui Planning Department for a meeting on Lanai.
