A Lihue woman was found unresponsive Wednesday afternoon in waters at Kalapaki Bay, according to Kauai police.
The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Karen Lardizabal.
According to police, a male bystander located the woman while swimming in the bay at around 6:30 p.m. The bystander, who happened to be a medical doctor, brought her to shore and immediately began performing CPR until medics arrived.
Lardizabal was transported to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, an autopsy was performed on Thursday, however, results of the autopsy are pending.
Volunteers with Life's Bridges, a grief counseling service, is assisting the victim’s family.
