Man, 62, dies after Honolulu assault

A 62-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition overnight in an assault at King Street and Punahou Street.

HONOLULU -

Honolulu police say a 62-year-old man has died after he was assaulted in the overnight hours near Washington Middle School.

Paramedics were called to the intersection of King Street and Punahou Street just after 3 a.m. Friday.

Investigators say witnesses saw 3-to-4 men confront the victim. There was some sort of an exchange and the group moved to an alley.

Witnesses then saw the victim fall down.  The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later died.  Investigators say the man was homeless.

A second-degree murder case been opened.  Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
