The suspect in a Kailua home explosion set fire to the house and burned himself in the process, police said.

The explosion at the Enchanted Lake home happened in May.

Honolulu police said Ozane Alexander Mosley Jr., 25, set a fire in a house which sparked an explosion.

As it turns out, Mosley is the son of Ozane Mosley Sr. from Honolulu Home Improvement, the company contracted to renovate the house.

According to court documents, there was a dispute between the contractor and the homeowner due to a lack of payment. The homeowner felt the work was substandard.

Mosley Sr. told KITV the homeowner didn't pay him, but that had nothing to do with the fire and to "ask his son about it."

The documents say that on May 17, Mosley Jr. told his girlfriend to drop him off just a few blocks from the house and wait.

Neighbors told police that after the explosion, they saw someone running from the home carrying what looked like a gas can, but they couldn't identify him.

Mosley's girlfriend told police she saw "Mosley running toward her, screaming in pain with no shirt on, and his pants were smoking."

Mosley, who has 11 prior convictions, including four for auto theft, appeared in court for the first time Monday with visible signs of burns on his face and bandages on his legs.

Police arrested him at Straub Hospital last week after detectives linked him to DNA evidence found at the scene.

Mosley's bail is set at $100,000.

A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
