HONOLULU -

Honolulu fire investigators are looking for the cause of an explosion Monday morning on a 43-foot sports yacht docked at the Ala Wai Harbor.

Fire crews got the call at around 9:23 a.m.

Emergency Medical Services officials say a 58-year-old man taken to the burn center in serious condition with second-degree burns to his arm, leg, back, and face.

Fire officials confirmed two people were on the boat at the time of the blast.  They say it appeared two men aboard were fueling up using containers of gasoline when a flammable vapor ignited.

"It doesn't appear that there was a large fire present when we arrived.  There was perhaps a fire with the explosion, but when we got here there was no longer an active fire burning," said Capt. Terry Seelig of the Honolulu Fire Department.

Firefighters blocked off a section of Holomoana Street fronting the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.
