A 34-year-old Union man was arrested after a neighbor accused him of smearing buttered toast on her SUV, according to a Union police report.

Christopher Brannon was arrested Saturday and charged with malicious damage to property.

Police were called to an apartment on Rice Avenue Extension about damage to a vehicle.

A 54-year-old woman told police that she saw Brannon, who is her neighbor, wiping something on the back window of her SUV.   She said she did not confront Brannon because she was "not properly dressed at the time."

She said when she got in her SUV several hours later, she found a greasy film on the glass and a pieces of buttered toast on the ground nearby.

An officer photographed the smeared butter and arrested Brannon.

He released from jail on a personal recognizance bond.

Damage to the SUV was estimated at $1.

Brannon's motive was not explained in the police report.
