The name of the man who was struck by a Tri-Rail train after jumping off of it was released Tuesday morning.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -

A man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after he was hit by a Tri-Rail train Monday night.

Investigators said it happened shortly after 8 p.m. at the West Palm Beach station just on the western edge of downtown West Palm Beach.

A southbound train had just departed when the 26-year-old man, later identified as Eddie Diaz, pulled the emergency cord because he left his cellphone on a bench outside, police said.

The emergency doors opened and he jumped off but slipped and was struck by the moving train.

Diaz was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. Dozens of passengers had to get off the train, too.

"The train just stopped," a passenger said. "They said somebody had jumped off the train trying to exit the train while it was in motion. That's all I know. It's just what happens when you're riding the Tri-Rail."

Passengers had to wait for an hour-and-a-half before another train arrived to take them to their destination.

At last check, Diaz was listed in critical condition.
