Maui crash kills moped driver

KIHEI, Hawaii -

A 54-year-old Maui man who was injured in a two-vehicle crash last month has died.

Maui police identified the victim Nicholas Webb of Kihei.

Police said Webb was driving his moped south on South Kihei Road at 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 25 when he lost control and crossed the center line. Police said Webb's moped then collided with a pickup truck headed the other way.

Webb was taken initially to Maui Memorial Medical Center and later transferred to the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. Police said he died Monday.

Police said he was not wearing a helmet. This is 14th traffic fatality in Maui County this year compared with 20 at this time last year.
