HANA, Hawaii -

Maui firefighters are conducting a search for two missing 16-year-old females with the assistance of National Park Rangers.

The search is taking place in Kipahulu at the Seven Sacred Pools area, mauka of the highway.

The party of five includes two adults, two females and one juvenile male.

The group was hiking when the water in the stream started rising, separating the two females from the three others in the group.

Firefighters launched a helicopter to assist in the search, but had to discontinue service due to darkness at 7:15 p.m. The ground search continued until it was called off at 8:50 p.m.

The search will resume Saturday morning at first light.

We will have more information on KITV4 Morning News and as it becomes available.
