Maui police charge parents after infant found with suspicious injury
Maui County police arrested and charged the parents of an infant girl after she brought to a clinic with a suspicious injury.
On Thursday, officers responded to the clinic. They found that Kayzia-Ashley Washington, 21, of Kahului, who is the mother of the infant, brought her child to the clinic to be treated for an injury.
Washington and her boyfriend, Dane Nakama, 20, who is also the father of the child, were involved in an argument. Washington was holding her daughter when the argument escalated into a struggle.
The child sustained an injury as a result of the parents struggling over the custody of their daughter.
Nakama was arrested and charged with assault in the second degree, abuse of a family and household member, and endangering the welfare of a minor. Bail was set at $12,000.
Washington was arrested and charged with the same offense. Bail was set at $3,000.
