Maui police chief retires for new position
Maui police chief Gary Yabuta has announced he's stepping down from his position.
The police department said Yabuta will be retiring within the next two months for a position as a Director of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area for Hawaii.
He told his command staff that he wanted every officer and every civilian worker of the Maui police to know how proud he was of them.
Yabuta joined the Maui Police Department Mar. 1, 1983.
He retires with 31 years of service.
