Kihei hit-and-run scene

KIHEI, Hawaii -

Maui County police say there have been six traffic fatalities in the last 11 days on Maui roadways.

The latest fatality happened late Tuesday in Kihei.

Police say, just before 11:15 p.m., a 51-year-old woman was struck by a Toyota truck while walking on Piilani Highway, about 350 feet south of North Kihei Road.

The truck did not stop to provide assistance to the pedestrian, according to investigators.  Police say the woman was not in a marked crosswalk.

The woman was identified as Viki Deardorff of Kihei.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maui police are looking for a bronze or khaki 2012-2014 Toyota Tacoma.  The truck should have damage to the grill, fender and headlight area on the front passenger side.

Anyone with information regarding this vehicle is encouraged to contact the Maui Police Department Vehicle Homicide Unit at 244-6347 or Police Dispatch at 244-6400.

This is Maui County's ninth traffic fatality of the year compared with four at the same time last year.
