McKinley High cheerleaders suspended; cyberbullying investigation pending
About 50 cheerleaders at McKinley High School have been suspended from the sport pending an investigation into cyberbullying.
Our partners at Civil Beat say Athletic Director Bob Morikuni told them the school decided to suspend the whole team to ensure the safety of all students.
The Hawaii State Department of Education tells Civil Beat the investigation was prompted when school administrators noticed that some cheerleaders were allegedly engaging in internet activity that included name-calling and harrassment against their peers.
The Junior Varsity team is still being allowed to participate in a championship competition.
