Well known and beloved surfing star, Buttons Kaluhiokalani, was laid to rest Friday.
Day-long memorial services were held at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki.
Kaluhiokalani died Nov. 2 from lung cancer.
Buttons rose to surfing stardom in the late 70s and early 80s, with his radical moves and tricks.
Hundreds came to pay their respects.
"He would have one big smile on his face, man, with a little tear in his eye and he would say, 'Thank you,'" said longtime friend Tony Agao.
Kaluhiokalani's ashes were spread off Waikiki during a paddle-out ceremony.
He was 54.
