The Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Lake Erie launched a spectacular show of force in a flight test of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System off Kauai West Coast this week.
Using cameras galore to document the mission from up-close, mid-range and from the far away naked eye, a blip blasting through the air.
The target -- a separating short-range ballistic missile zipping over the Pacific Ocean.
The USS Lake Erie first tracked the missile by radar, then guided its weapon to strike on the mark.
A final show of heat in infrared. It was the third consecutive successful intercept of its kind.
There have been 25 out of 31 successful flight tests since testing began in 2002.
