Molokai crash leads to hospitalization of two seniors

MAUNALOA, Hawaii -

Two 86-year-old Molokai residents were hospitalized after a car crash on Molokai Thursday.

Police say they occupants were traveling in a pickup truck along Mauna Loa Highway, just east of Kaluakoi Road in Mauna Loa, when they collided with a guard rail. The vehicle then moved from the north to the south shoulder of the roadway, climbed an embankment, flipped on its roof and trapped the occupants in the vehicle.

The male passenger of Kaluakoi was medevac to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

The female driver, also of Kaluakoi, was transported to Molokai General Hospital in stable condition and then airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center for further treatment.

Officers are still investigation the incident.
