Monk seal seen near Sandy Beach

HONOLULU -

Chrislyn DeMattos sent in a picture and a video of a monk seal near Sandy Beach Park on this Kamehameha Day.

The monk seal was seen at around 12:30 p.m.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was notified.

Remember -- NOAA Fisheries guidelines say people should be at least 50 yards from marine mammals, including monk seals.

NOAA officials also suggest limiting your viewing time to 30 minutes.
