As United States Postal Service considers closing a Kaimuki post office, many customers are petitioning to keep it open.

KAIMUKI, Hawaii -

Some Kaimuki neighborhood leaders have started an online petition to save the Kaimuki post office.

The office on Koko Head Avenue is one of five the United States Postal Service wants to close due to its financial woes.

The small facility doesn't have any P.O. boxes and is primarily a retail and drop-off site. Many customers still want the location to remain open.

"They should keep it open because it's always busy. Chris in there is a really good worker and everyone knows him by name, and the services are really good," said Chris Ho.

One woman noted the convenience of the post office's location.

"I've been coming here for 20-30 years. The thing I like the most is it's near my house, and there's lot of parking space," said Elaine Takamiya.

More than 120 people have signed the online petition.

The USPS will hold a community meeting Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to get feedback from the community before making a final decision on the closure.
