Nine people were hospitalized Sunday morning after an unknown odor was reported at the Lihu'e Walmart on Kaua'i.

According to a county spokeswoman, the noxious odor resulted in the full evacuation of the supermarket around 11 a.m. after employees and customers complained of experiencing eye and throat irritation.
Firefighters from the Kaua'i Fire Department used the assistance of the county bus system to transport seven of those affected by the odor to neighboring Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Two other people affected also checked into the hospital's emergency room for treatment.
None of the injuries were reported to be critical or life-threatening.
A hazardous materials crew from KFD and representatives from the Department of Health are investigating the cause of the odor.
Walmart continues to remain closed Sunday and officials are asking the public to avoid the area
