EWA BEACH, Hawaii -

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii after an 8.0-magnitude earthquake near Alaska Monday morning, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The earthquake struck just before 11 a.m. Hawaii time 15 miles southeast of Little Sitkin Island.

Scientists say the earthquake was too deep to post a threat to Hawaii.  However, a warning was sent for part of the Aleutian Islands near the epicenter.

The initial magnitude was measured at 7.1.

Another strong earthquake stuck near New Zealand Monday morning with a magnitude of 6.9 with no tsunami threat.
