SUNSET BEACH, Hawaii -

The city has given at least one North Shore resident permission to move sand into the shoreline to help with the recent erosion problem.

State officials say it's the swell direction and not the size of the surf that's causing severe erosion to beachfront homes on Oahu's North Shore.

About six to eight homes between Rocky Point and Sunset Beach are threatened by erosion.  At least one home's supporting pier is being threatened.

Andrew Pereira will have a full report tonight on KITV4 News at 6.
