Homecoming took on a whole new meaning Friday night at Reading High School.

All eyes were on 7-year-old Dylan Reed and his dad, Staff Sgt. Tony Reed.

Dylan had been waiting almost a year to be reunited with his dad, who was serving his third tour of duty with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Reed arrived home Thursday but Dylan and his younger sister and brother had no idea that their dad was hidden among the Reading football players. That was until he surprised them on the field before the game.

“It was a spectacular moment to see the kids, especially in this environment on the football field. We love our football field, so it was definitely a nice homecoming to come home to. Also, homecoming week here for Reading,” Reed said.

Reed played for the Blue Devils when he was in high school. He joined the Army nine days after graduating in 2001.
