HONOLULU -

The Honolulu medical examiner has identified the man shot and killed by police last week in Pacific Palisades.

The man was identified as 51-year-old James Pickard Jr.

Pickard died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso.  The initial autopsy report did not say how many times Pickard was shot.

The shooting happened last Wednesday at around 2:45 a.m. on Komo Mai Drive between Auhuhu Street and Aumakua Street.

Police say the car Pickard was driving was stolen.  Pickard has eight auto theft convictions dating back to 1995.  The latest auto theft conviction was in 2006.

Pickard has at least 18 total convictions including theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and resisting arrest.
