The Palama Settlement is accepting recyclables Saturday, Sept. 28 in support of Going Green Day. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Going Green Day helps promote community clean-up to preserve natural resources, and divert waste from Honolulu’s landfills while supporting the local economy.

Funds raised from the community event will benefit Palama Settlement’s programs that have served the low-income neighborhoods surrounding the unique campus since 1896.

Recyclable waste will be collected behind the Palama Settlement Gymnasium. Acceptable items include scrap metal, appliances, electronic equipment, HI-5 beverage containers, usable clothing and household items, and more.

Canned goods also will be collected to support the Hawaii Food Bank. Curbside pick up is available, as is free towing of unwanted cars.

For a complete list of acceptable items and for more information, visit or visit Going Green.
