PAIA, Hawaii -

Maui County officials announced that the pavilion area at Baldwin Park in Paia was closed Wednesday due to high surf.

The surf has flooded the lower-lying areas of the park including the gravel parking lot, the pavilion parking lot and the pavilion itself.  These areas will be closed to the public for the rest of Wednesday.

The Department of Parks and Recreation will reevaluate the area on Thursday before making a decision to reopen the area.

A high surf warning is in effect for the north and east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island.
