Hawaiian Telcom says it is dealing with double the amount of trouble calls and says the weather is partially to blame.

Landlines in a 14-story high-rise in Hawaii Kai have been out since the rain hit last weekend.  The resident manager said he's been told repairs may not happen until Nov. 22.

He's worried because a majority of the apartment owners are elderly and many don't have cell phones.

Residents say the landlines are tied into the building's security system.

"The landlines are also in the elevators and that is an emergency call out button and right now I have some that work and some that don't.  So it is a problem," said resident manager Tommy Samora.

Hawaiian Telcom says the phone and Internet outages are reported in pocked in East Honolulu, Windward Oahu, West Oahu, as well as the neighbor islands.

Hawaiian Telcom crews are working overtime to deal with the increase volume of trouble calls.

Customers will have their bills adjusted and may have their numbers forwarded to their cell phones free of charge during the outage.
