Hawaii County police and fire crews investigated an apparent homemade device that exploded on the Hilo High School campus on Thursday, according to the Hawaii Department of Education.
DOE spokesman Alex Da Silva says the small device that exploded at the school is being described as a "bottle bomb."
It went off around 11:15 a.m. outside the auditorium of the Big Island school.
