Police say the event started around 7:15 p.m. when a wanted fugitive realized that undercover officers were watching him in Kahala. The entire event happened near the Kahala Mall.

Authorities say the suspect tried to flee in a car but only made it a couple of blocks away when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle causing it to flip and land on its roof at the intersection of Moho Street and Makaiwa Street.

Police say the 34-year-old then tried to run away from officers on foot but three cops were able to catch up with the suspect. When they did, the man pulled out a gun and shot at the officers. None of the three officers were injured and they were eventually able to arrest the man. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Police say the man has a $100,000 warrant for violating his parole. They say he was released from prison in October of 2013. He has 22 prior convictions, including 13 felonies for kidnapping, burglary, ID theft and auto theft.

The man was arrested on three counts of attempted murder, failure to render aid and other firearms charges.

About a dozen officers were involved in the incident and none of them were injured.
