Police charged man in connection with Haleiwa brush fire

A massive brush fire threatening homes on North Shore. Firefighters spent much of this afternoon and evening trying to protect those homes and contain the fire.

HALEIWA, Hawaii -

Honolulu police have charged a man in connection with a brush fire that broke out in Haleiwa on Friday.

35-year-old Scott Mack was charged for failure to control widely dangerous means.  He was released on $100 bail.

Officials said Mack was burning trash from his yard when it got out of hand.  The blaze forced the evacuation of at least a dozen families and burned nearly 10 acres.  The fire was extinguished Saturday.
