Texas hiker on Kauai identified

HANAKAPI'AI, Hawaii -

Police have identified the 68-year-old man who died hiking the Hanakapi'ai Trail on Kauai as Edward Rishebarger of Spring Branch, TX.

Officials say Rishebarger was roughly one mile from the Ke'e Beach trailhead when he began suffering a shortness of breath and eventually fainted.

Bystanders performed CPR on him until rescuers arrived on scene. He was later pronounced dead at Samuel Mahelona Hospital.

Foul play is not suspected in Rishebarger's death. According to police, the man had an existing heart condition and is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Volunteer's with Life's Bridges, a grief counseling service, and representatives from the Kaua'i Visitors Bureau are assisting the victim's family.
