Police investigating suspicious person at Mililani school
Honolulu police are investigating three cases of a suspicious person seen at Mililani Ike Elementary taking pictures of the school and students.
Two incidents were reported in September and the most recent happened last Friday.
According to the school's principal, a staff member saw a man in a car taking photos of the kids and buildings on campus. But, the man left when approached by a school employee.
Mililani Ike's principal says they're not trying to incite fear, but instead are trying to inform parents and students to simply be aware of the environment around them at all times.
"In no way is our campus on any heightened security. It's business as everyday," said Lynee Ajifu, Mililani Ike Elementary principal. "Our message was just to share with our families this is what's happening. Let's continue our partnership that we have everyday to educate and keep our children positive citizens in our community."
Police say officers have stepped up patrols in the area.
