Suspect arrested in Ore. woman murder case
The Marine Corps confirms Nathaniel Cosby is a Master Sergeant based out of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Japan. A Marine Corps spokesperson tells KITV4 the 38-year-old has been in Hawaii on temporary duty. They say Cosby is an explosive device technician and has been with the Marines since 1998.
Honolulu police arrested Cosby in connection with the death of Ivanice "Ivy" Harris. The 29-year-old from Portland, Oregon was visiting Hawaii with friends to celebrate her birthday. She was last seen in Waikiki on May 16, her body was found four days later near Yokohama bay.
"The detectives got a lot of information which was a great help and this is in a matter of maybe two to three weeks that it happened from her going from missing to finding the body to the arrest so kudos to the detectives," says Kim Buffett, of HPD CrimeStoppers.
Police and CrimeStoppers want to thank the public for their help in the investigation. Currently, Cosby is being held at HPD headquarters but police have yet to release details on this case.
"So much information has to be gathered, so much has to be investigated and all the information that we get is not particularly true in some cases so it's been a long investigation and they've been working around the clock on this case," says Buffett.
HPD did not reveal what led to Cosby's arrest but our ABC affiliate in Portland Oregon, talked with a spokesperson from Harris' family who said he helped police track down someone on Craigslist who had purchased Harris' missing jewelry. That person described the man he bought it from but there's still no confirmation if that man was Cosby.
