Police say a man was stabbed to death on a busy street in Kailua. The latest attack marks the second deadly stabbing in as many nights.
"I've been here 48 years. It's the first time we've had a dead body on the street," said business owner Robert Pestana.
A murder on Uluniu Street is an alarming reality for Kailua business owners.
"I wouldn't walk on the street by myself," said Pestana.
Around 11:45 p.m. Monday, police say a man was stabbed multiple times in the torso. Pestana owns a business across the street from the crime scene. He says there's usually a homeless man who sleeps where the victim was killed.
"They don't cause trouble. That's one thing I can honesty tell. We never have problems with the homeless," said Pestana.
No problems with the homeless, but what about problems it may cause businesses?
"If it's just this incident, I don't think so, but if it starts to be moreso, then yeah," said Kailua business owner Mark Kimbrell.
Business owners say this incident may not affect the way customers feel about the street. But, the blood stains may be a haunting memory.
"Kailua, the area, has changed over the years. A lot more homeless," said Kimbrell.
Last July, a homeless man was stabbed to death in Kailua District Park, Brian Kim was charged with second-degree murder in the case.
Police searched around Uluniu Street for about four hours Tuesday morning. They say the suspect is a man in his 20s leaving the scene in a black baseball cap. If you have any information, please call police.
