HONOLULU -

Honolulu police say a 68-year-old woman from Honolulu died after she was hit by an SUV in Makiki.

It happened just before 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Makiki Street and Wilder Avenue.

Investigators say the SUV was traveling south on Makiki Street and was making a left turn onto Wilder Avenue when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was in a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian was initially hospitalized in critical condition with head and internal injuries and died a short time later.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

This is Oahu's first traffic fatality in 2014 compared with one fatality at this same time last year.
