Power outage affects Oahu's north shore

The problems started before daybreak when pounding rains gave way to gusts of up to 50 miles an hour over parts of Oahu.

LAIE, Hawaii -

33 customers were without power and phone service Sunday morning on Oahu's North Shore after a pole went down near the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Kamehameha Highway has been contraflowed between Kokololio Beach and Pounders Beach Park as telephone crews work to restore service.

Hawaiian Electric says customers reported seeing a lightening strike hit the pole before the outage.
