Proposal would turn Herb Kane's home into a B&B
Two Big Island residents have an idea for what should be done with late Herb Kane's Honaunau home.
West Hawaii Today reports that David Cox and Michael Corbitt are proposing that the Hawaii artist's home be turned into a bed and breakfast. Kane lived on the property from 1982 until his death in early 2011. The two men have leased Kane's home from the Herbert K. Kane Family Trust since August 2011.
They filed an application with the Planning Department that says they intend to continue running the 8.5-acre avocado farm as the primary operation. They also hope to run a four-room bed and breakfast to supplement income and help support the farm.
Cox and Corbitt are scheduled to meet with the Leeward Planning Commission on Thursday.
