Oahu Interscholastic Association athletics directors met behind closed doors at Radford High School on Tuesday to talk about scheduling.

Football games are starting later this year because of the Department of Education extending school hours until 3 p.m.  That has some players and parents getting home well after midnight.

"We looked at it and splitting games was going to be too hectic for everyone, so we'll just do an earlier start time on Fridays.  5:30 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.," said Farrington High School Athletic Director Harold Tanaka.  "Maybe we'll get done a half hour or 45 minutes earlier."

The DOE says both JV football and volleyball games will start at 5:30 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.  The changes go into effect this coming Monday for volleyball and Sept. 12 for football games on Fridays.
