Puna man, 40, charged with terroristic threatening
Big Island police have charged a 40-year-old Puna man with terroristic threatening for pointing what looked like a rifle at two police officers Tuesday morning while they were investigating a domestic dispute between the man and his adult son.
Jonathan P. Rodrigues Sr. of Mountain View was charged on Wednesday with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $20,000.
Rodrigues, who was also arrested Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree assault for the affray with his son, was released on that offense pending further investigation.
Police were called to the Mountain View home Monday night for a domestic dispute that neighbors say was loud and violent.
Rodrigues' son, 24-year-old Jonathan Rodrigues Jr., went to the hospital with numerous injuries to his head, body and hands. He said he didn't remember what prompted his father's attack.
Witnesses said the elder Rodrigues also attacked his daughter. Neighbors say Rodrigues used a machete or cane knife.
